Cygnum’s experience of working with timber is built on the best traditions of skilled craftsmanship and excellence in manufacturing, combined with cutting-edge technical engineering and design capabilities.

Established in 1997 Cygnum is  one of Ireland’s leading timber frame processing companies, it spans almost 20 years of making timber frames for houses, homes (both one-off and in volume), hotels, apartment blocks, care homes, schools and other public buildings.

Initially, as more homebuyers began to demand higher quality housing, we focused on producing frames for exclusive and technically challenging individual homes.

This enabled us to develop a technical engineering and design department who are constantly driven to find ways to improve existing products and use cutting-edge solutions to exceed our clients’ requirements where possible, demonstrably setting ourselves apart from our competitors.

By 2000, developers had begun to realise the numerous benefits of timber frame for Irish homes, and we established a new division of the business to supply this growing market.

This led us in 2004 to invest in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility equipped with a modern, efficient production line built to our specific requirements in Macroom, Co. Cork.

Further expansion and an eye on improving our service to clients in the UK saw us in 2007 open an office Stowmarket, Suffolk. There we focused on the more technically demanding sector of the market, supplying timber frame for apartment blocks and hotels of up to seven storeys in height.

We also identified an increasing demand for energy-efficient public buildings, particularly schools built to the latest BREEAM low carbon standards.

In 2011, Cygnum built one of the UK’s first Passivhaus registered schools in Wolverhampton. The success of the project and quality of our work achieved widespread recognition to the extent that we are now the main timber frame supplier to other such projects in this market.

In 2013, we became the first Irish company, and one of only two in the UK and Ireland to have a Passivhaus system certified by Germany’s Passivhaus Institute.

Cygnum continues to grow from strength to strength and is now the largest timber frame manufacturer in Ireland.

Our team of talented engineers, designers, energy efficiency and construction experts can bring this wealth of knowledge and experience to your next project.

Cygnum have an obvious depth of experience and understanding of what good timber frame practice is about.

Duncan Stewart – Architect & TV Presenter

Cygnum’s is the best timber frame package on the market.

Dr Eamonn McKeogh – UCC

Cygnum is the best timber frame company I’ve ever dealt with. With the excellent design, manufacture, installation and final product, I would have no problem referring them to anybody.

Jason Seitz – Engineer, Co. Dublin

We bought a Precision 300 kit from Cygnum Timber frame and employed Cygnum to erect this up to roof level and insulate the roof space. The build process went very smoothly with kit delivery on time and the building shell was fully erected in a matter of weeks. We would definitely recommend using Cygnum Timber frame to anyone considering building a timber frame house and would like to thank Cygnum for their part in building us the highly insulated and very comfortable home that we envisaged at the start of the process.

Jeremy Gibson – Kinsale, Co. Cork

Our practice has commissioned Cygnum to provide timber frames for many of our bespoke houses. The intelligent advice and technical expertise they bring to our projects has proved to be invaluable. It is a testament to our confidence in Cygnum, that we now introduce Cygnum to our clients early in the design process to answer queries in relation to the energy efficiency of their project, and will soon be using Cygnum on our most prestigious bespoke housing project in years. Their meticulous attention to detail complements the high quality service we provide. We have found their on-site work and after care service to be first rate.
