The Inaugural Cygnum Awards at MTU

Congratulations to all the winners of the inaugural Cygnum Building Offsite Awards at Munster Technological University.

Director of Sales, Heber Mc Mahon was delighted to make the presentations on behalf of Cygnum Building Offsite to these outstanding students whose final-year projects were based on the use of timber in construction.

Those awarded top prizes for their projects in timberwork include:

Aideen Buckley – Civil Engineering Department

Cathal Fitzpatrick – Architectural Department

Eoin Cahill – Construction Department

Building with timber reduces the carbon footprint of house construction by 60%. It is the quickest and easiest way for Ireland to tackle its carbon emissions from construction and, in the process, it will enable a dramatic increase in housing output.

These projects exemplify the talent being developed at Munster Technological University.

It’s essential to encourage and support our students to design with timber to help fuel the future of Ireland’s timber frame industry.

One of the simplest ways to reduce carbon emissions

Growing trees take carbon from the atmosphere. Wood used by Cygnum comes from sustainable forests and stores carbon for the lifespan of the building. Increasing the use of wood in construction is one of the simplest ways to reduce carbon emissions. This is tried and tested #mmc.
