On April 10th, Minister for Housing Simon Coveney T.D. launched ‘The Cork Issue’ of the Royal Institute of Architects Ireland journal, Architecture Ireland, at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery in UCC. It is the first time ever the RIAI has editorially focused on just one location – and Architecture Ireland takes a close look at the topic ‘Cork Towards a Second City’. The Cork Issue is also the RIAI’s largest edition of Architecture Ireland in almost a decade.
We were delighted to give our support to the launch which was attended by a large number of Cork architects. The edition features 3 proposed social housing schemes ear-marked for Cork. Simon Coveney announced in his speech “I am pleased to have been able to approve a budget of almost €40 million for these schemes which will deliver 154 high quality social dwellings in excellent locations as part of Cork City’s ambitious Social Housing programme.”
